15 May 2013: GeoVid was presented at the NUS InnovFest 2013 at the Orchard Hotel in Singapore, organized by NUS Enterprise. GeoVid was also presented as part of the Insider Tour of the Interactive and Digital Media Institute (IDMI) in the I-Cube building on the NUS campus. A short video of GeoVid that was presented at the AWS session at InnovFest 2012 is available here (H.264/MPEG-4).

22 February 2013: The fifth Steering Committee Meeting of COSMIC was held on 22 February 2013 at NTU with participants from the founding organizations National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB), and the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA).
UCR Insect Classification Contest

21 Jan 2013: We have participated in the UCR Insect Classification Contest held by Dr. Eamonn Keogh's lab at University of California, Riverside (UCR) to create a similarity measure for insect flight sounds. The first phase of the contest ended in November 2012 and the COSMIC team achieved 4th place overall with a score of 0.76 just slightly behind the leader with 0.79. The work has been performed by Dr. Yi Yu. We will continue to participate in the 2nd phase of the contest during 2013.

Workshop in Suzhou at NUSRI

4 January 2013: The NUS School of Computing is organizing a workshop on 4 and 5 January in conjunction with several MDA supported international research centres: CSIDM, NExT, COSMIC, and SeSaMe. The workshop is held at the NUS Research Institute (NUSRI) at Suzhou Industry Park (SIP) in Suzhou, China.

Best Paper Award at ISM 2012

10 December 2012: A team with members from our research group has received the Best Paper Award at the 7th IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM 2012). The paper is entitled Recognition and Summarization of Chord Progressions and Their Application to Music Information Retrieval. It has been co-authored by Yi Yu, Wang Ye, Roger Zimmermann (NUS), and Vincent Oria (NJIT).
