Short Bio

Roger Zimmermann is an Associate Professor with the Department of Computer Science at the National University of Singapore (NUS) where he is also an investigator with the Interactive and Digital Media Institute (IDMI). Prior to joining NUS in 2007 he held the position of Research Area Director with the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC) at the University of Southern California (USC). He is still affiliated with USC as Adjunct Associate Professor, where he received his Ph.D. degree in 1998. His research interests are in the areas of distributed and peer-to-peer systems, collaborative environments, streaming media architectures, georeferenced video search, and mobile location-based services. His work on high-resolution Internet streaming resulted in the Remote Media Immersion system which has been demonstrated on Internet2. Dr. Zimmermann is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a member of ACM. He has co-authored a book, two patents and more than hundred conference publications, journal articles and book chapters in the areas of multimedia and information management. Dr. Zimmermann is on the editorial board of the ACM Computers in Entertainment magazine and the International Journal of Multimedia Tools and Applications. He is also an Associate Editor for the ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications journal. He has served on the conference program committees of many leading conferences and he was co-chair of the MMCN 2007 and 2008 conferences.
